Q. Can I find the test online / what test material is available online?
Ans : Yes, Socrato supports two types of tests :
• Tests with Online Processing Only
o For these Test, Socrato does not host or distribute the actual questions of test online. Based on Student responses, plus using proprietary iterative analysis and methods Socrato is able to do the processing with detailed diagnostic analysis for these tests.
• Tests with Online Questions [OQ] for Practice and Processing
o For these Test, Socrato hosts the actual questions online. Similar to processing only tests, Socrato is able to do the processing with detailed diagnostic analysis. Additionally, user can Practice / Take Test online / print and can create new custom tests from the items on fly.
For grade 3 - 10 Math and ELA there is a big collection of Items/Question Bank and Test Bank online.
For many of the "Admission Test" like SAT, ACT etc. Socrato provides Online Processing Only. One can purchase or get the test material for these tests from bookseller like Amazon, B&N etc. In majority of the cases, the testing agencies themselves will sell or provide a download of a few sample tests (which are typically past retired tests).
Q. What are the codes (061B or ABFA, CCFA etc.) at the end of Test name?
Ans : Codes :
• Testing agencies like College Board (SAT), ACT org etc. release the past / retired test in any combination of: as sample download, as part of students result, published material via book seller or sells directly. Student can get access to these Tests via purchasing, from libraries, their elder siblings etc. Testing agencies uniquely identifies these retired tests via assigning them certain codes. These codes may be shown at beginning of the test booklet, at the end of the test booklet, or in the footer of the test booklet.
• Socrato does not host the questions of these tests, but provides processing and diagnostic analysis for retired tests. Users need to make sure they submit the results for the proper tests by looking at the associated codes in the Test name.
Q. What are the FORM CODEs in the SAT Tests?
Ans : College Board which conducts the SAT exams has an interesting way of coding the Tests Name, also known as the Form Code. After talking to a lot of students and educators below is our take. For a given Test Day there is only 1 Test but 3 Form Codes.
For every test day (example Jan 2010) SAT will create “One Test” (which will have 171 questions organized into 10 sections, 3 for Math, 3 for Reading, 2 for writing, 1 Essay and 1 experimental). Interestingly, in a given subject area, each section will have different number of questions. Example: Three section of Reading will have 24, 25 and 18 questions respectively.
Once this questions and section structure is completed. College Board will create three (our understanding) different sequencing of sections and will create 3 Tests (Forms). Each Test/Form will have its unique code and unique sequencing of Sections. Please note the questions with in the section are in same order.
Since, 2016 SAT has redesigned, so all old codes of SAT are invalid.
Q. For SAT the Form Code in my Test does not match with what Socrato can process. How do I handle that?
Ans : Enter Results via Excel Copy / Paste:
Before you can use the copy / paste method, you need to get the understating of the sequencing how Socrato will process the results and how they are arranged in your Form Code. You will have to manually rearrange the sections in your excel file and map those to what system expects, before you can copy and paste.
